A second chance for your plants
Every year, plants end up on the pavement on moving day, or in the bin because there are “too many cuttings”. Yet someone two streets away would love to take them in.
With Pothy, giving a plant away takes one tap: it shows up in the Community tab, where people around you see it with a rough distance.
How to give a plant away
- From the plant’s page, tap “Give / Trade”, then pick a gift. Pothy prepares the listing with its photos.
- People who are interested tap “I want it” and write to you in the app.
- You choose who gets it: it’s reserved for that person.
- You meet, then tap “Handover done”: the plant joins its new garden, with its story.
Rather give it to a friend? Just send them a link: they get it in their garden by opening it.
Moving house?
Plants are often forgotten in a move. A few tips:
- Offer them two or three weeks before you leave, to give people time to come.
- For a big plant, give its size in your message: the person will know whether to come by car.
- Keep a cutting of your favourites: it travels in a simple jar of water, and you keep a bit of the mother plant.
- Water a day or two before the handover rather than on the day: the pot will be lighter and less messy.
Adopt a plant for free
Fancy a new plant without buying one? In the Community tab, pick gifts: you see the plants and cuttings offered near you. Tap “I want it”, introduce yourself in a few words, and if the owner chooses you, you arrange it in the chat.
Once home, the plant arrives with its care sheet and its watering reminders: even if it’s your first plant, you know what to do.
What the plant takes with it
Its photos, the care already logged and its family tree: if it’s a cutting, its new owner will know which plant it comes from. And if you’d like a plant back, offer a swap instead.
