A plant swap without Facebook groups or classified ads
Today, trading cuttings means Facebook groups, forums or a plant swap event once a year. Posts get lost, you never know who lives nearby, and you end up giving your number to a stranger.
In Pothy, it all happens in the app. The Community tab shows the plants and cuttings offered around you, as a list or on a map, with a rough distance. Filter by gift or trade, cutting or plant, species and distance.
Plant for plant: how a swap works
A swap is one plant for one plant. No cash offers, no complicated wish lists:
- Offer a plant or a cutting for trade, from its page, in one tap.
- Someone nearby taps “Propose a trade” and picks one of their own plants.
- You chat in the app and accept the offer you like: the plant is reserved.
- You meet, then tap “Handover done”: both plants change gardens at the same time.
Every plant leaves with its story
This is what makes swapping plants with Pothy different: at the handover, the plant arrives in the other person’s garden with its photos, its care and its family tree. Its new owner knows where it comes from, and gets its watering reminders from day one.
Swap with confidence
- Your location stays approximate: an area of about 5 km and the town’s name, never your address.
- Messages are private and moderated. You don’t have to share your number.
- After each handover, both of you review each other, blind, so reviews stay honest.
- Reporting or blocking someone takes one tap.
- To meet, pick a public place, in daylight.
Getting a cutting swap ready
- A cutting travels well in a small jar of water, or wrapped in damp paper.
- A potted plant travels in a bag or a box, sheltered from the cold in winter.
- Check under the leaves before you go: nobody wants to swap bugs.
- No need to know the plant’s exact name: its care sheet travels with it.
